It was another wet and rainy morning when we woke up. After a couple of cups of coffee and a bite to eat we headed out. There was more to this town than we first thought when we walked in yesterday. We made our way through town and walked past several sculptures. This one was particulary interesting. I have my own theory about what the artist is trying to communicate but it would be interesting to hear what you guys think he is trying to say with this piece of art. I took pictures of both sides of the sculputure. What do you think?

The trail led us through an arch and we were soon back in the woods again.

As we were walking along a country lane, this church and cemetary caught my eye. I had to go check it out.

These little churches seem so lonesome and forgotten out here in the countryside. How many weddings were performed inside these old stone walls? How many new born babies have been christened inside? These old walls have seen generations come and go and have witnessed countless joys and sorrows. Standing in front of it you realize that a lifetime for us is just a small blip in time so we had better use our time here wisely.

Not long after leaving the church, we were back in the woods again. There were a lot of eucalyptus trees along the trail. It was raining so the smells were almost overpowering. This is one of the largest that I have every seen.

When the trail led us out of the woods and past some pastures, we saw these two good looking horses. It doesn't look like they have missed a meal in a long time. Our West Texas horses would eat themselves into a food coma if they were put here for a few days.

It rained pretty much the entire day off and on. We tried to take off our rain gear between showers but as soon as we took it off we had to put it back on again. We are getting very fast at it.

After lunch, the woods gave way to open pastures and fields. Acres and acres of what looked like corn.

This is pretty much all we saw throughout the afternoon. The rain continued to come down all afternoon along with a cold wind.

We passed some very old farm houses throughout the day and they all have these stone storage buildings on pedestles to keep the animals out. In the past they were used to store food after the harvest. They all have a stone cross on top of them. I guess it is a way to have the Lord bless the harvest.

After walking about 22 kilometers in the rain and wind we stopped at a tiny bar/cafe for a coffee and snack. According to my calculations we still had 8 kilometers left of walking through corn fields in the rain. I talked to the lady that fixed us coffee and she made a phone call and we caught a ride for the last few kilometers to where we are staying tonight.

It sure felt good to kick off our wet shoes and get a hot shower. Slogging through the rain all day sure makes you appreciate the small things like being dry and warm. We have just finished eating supper and are about to call it a night. We should see the ocean sometime tomorrow. The forecast is for better weather so we are keeping our fingers crossed. So until tomorrow we will bid everyone Buen Camino!
